Frequently Asked Questions

How does acupuncture work?

. The goal of acupuncture therapy is to establish a healthier state of body function and to increase the capacity to cope with stress. Each person has an energy circulation. To maintain good health, it is essential for the body’s energy, as well as the blood, to circulate in a continuous and unobstructed manner. The pathways through which the energy flows are called meridians. The energy which flows along the meridians is called Qi. There are over 500 acupuncture points lying along the meridians. By stimulating these points with needles, Qi and blood circulations can be normalised and illness would be gone. In addition to providing effective treatment for a wide range of health disorders, acupuncture can also be used to maintain normal body functioning and assist with disease prevention.

Can I swim or take a shower after acupuncture or cupping?

. Yes, you can do anything including swimming and taking a shower.

How to cook the raw herbs?

. The best containers are ceramic or glass ones. Stainless steel is better than the other metals.

Step1: put herbs in a pot, add 600~800ml of the water just covering the herbs and soak them for around 20 minutes without cooking.

Step2: at the beginning we can use strong heat to boil it, then turn down the fire to a low simmer and keep brewing it for 20~25 minutes, strain the soup into a cup.

Step3: add 400~600ml water into the pot with the wet herbs, brew once again as step2 and then strain the soup into a cup.

Put 2 cups soup together, drink 1 cup (the half of total) each time, twice a day. It is best to take the herbal tea warm in the morning and evening, or if the stomach is a little uncomfortable after drinking, the tea can be taken after meal.

How often and how long will I need to be treated?

. It depends on your problems and situations. For acute problems, we may treat a person daily for three visits, then twice a week for one or two weeks is usually sufficient to build on the natural healing response. For chronic problems, the therapies can be done twice a week for the first two weeks, and then once a week for four or six weeks is usually required. Everyone is different. We will prescribe a schedule tailored to your condition during your first visit.

Will my private Health Fund cover my treatment?

. Dr. Kaiqing Yang is recognized as a provider of acupuncture and Chinese medicine with all Australian private Health Funds. The amount of your rebate depends on your individual cover with your Health Fund. Please check with your private insurance company to see if your policy covers you for acupuncture treatment. We have the electronic claiming system (Hicaps), so you have to bring your Health Fund card with you when you see doctor. You can claim Health Funds rebates straight away here and you just need to pay the gap as long as you are covered for acupuncture and Chinese herbal consultation.

How to pay?

. We accept cash and cheque. EFTPOS facility is also available for debit card, Credit card (including Visa and MasterCard except Am-express).

How about transport and parking when visiting your clinic?

. There are several bus stops close to our clinic with routes 16, 60, 66, 21, 22, 67, 68. Free parking is available on nearby streets.

Is acupuncture painful?

. Acupuncture is relatively painless but this does depend on the sensitivity of the client. For the majority of clients, insertion of the needle may feel like a mosquito bite because the needle is so fine. Some people maybe feel painful to some extent, but it is tolerable. If someone has a fear of needles, then electronic acupuncture (without needles) can be done instead in our clinic.
