Nervous about your first appointment? Here's exactly what happens, from your initial consultation to how you'll feel afterwards.
If you've never had acupuncture before, it's natural to feel a little unsure about what's involved. The good news is that your first visit is relaxed, unhurried and built around understanding you.
We begin with a consultation about your health history, lifestyle and what you'd like help with. Dr Yang will check your pulse and tongue — two important diagnostic tools in Chinese medicine — to build a complete picture of your wellbeing.
Treatment itself is gentle. The needles are extremely fine, and most people feel little more than a tiny pinch, if anything at all. You'll then rest comfortably for 20–40 minutes while the needles do their work. Many patients find this deeply relaxing and some even drift off to sleep.
Afterwards, we'll talk through how you might feel over the next few days and any lifestyle or dietary advice that can support your treatment. Most people feel calm and a little tired in a pleasant way.
