What it may help with
Why acupuncture works for pain
Acupuncture stimulates the nervous system, prompting the body to release its own natural painkillers and anti-inflammatory chemicals while improving circulation to the painful area. In Chinese medicine terms, pain is a sign that Qi and blood are blocked, and the points we choose are aimed at restoring that flow. This is also what makes treatment drug-free: it works by prompting responses your body already has.
What to expect in your first session
Your first visit begins with a consultation covering your pain, its history and its triggers, and treatment follows in the same appointment. Very fine, single-use needles are placed at points chosen for your condition, which most people find relatively painless, followed by 20 to 40 minutes of comfortable rest while they work.
For acute pain we may recommend closely spaced visits at first; long-standing pain usually settles into a weekly course. Dr Yang will discuss a tailored plan with you before you leave, so you know what the course involves and when to expect progress.
